Rain, Rain, Go Away: Staying Active Indoors When The Weather Is Rough

Central Florida has had a fair share of rain lately, between our usual late-summer monsoons and having hurricane Hermine blowing through. All the wet weather means many people have been thrown off of their typical exercise routine since running, team sports, and other outdoor athletics have been put on hold. That’s no reason to let yourself go though!
Exercise can be taken indoors, right in your very own home! Even better? You can incorporate your kids other family members in these exercises, which means you are enjoying time with the ones you care about while you’re getting healthy.
Try these 3 fun routines to add some physical exertion to your day, while letting you have a blast.
Dance-Off. Dancing can burn a ton of calories, and is a great form of cardio. Whether you choose to learn a new dance routine, participate in a cardio-targeted dance workout, or just crank up some tunes and go crazy, you’ll be sweating off stress and pounds. It’s so much fun, you probably won’t even realize you’re working out!
Get Down with Your Downward Dog. Yoga is a wonderful form of indoor exercise. It increases muscle tone and strength, aids in balance and agility, and it’s wonderful for stress relief and focus. Since it takes very little equipment (just a mat, and your own body!) and no much space, it’s a great choice for those rainy days when you can’t get outside or make it to the gym.
Equipment-Free Training. Pushups, leg lifts, squats, etc. are all great exercises that build muscle and can burn a lot of calories if done in quick succession. They take no equipment other than your own body (and possibly a piece of furniture for balance) and they can be modified to meet you where you are in terms of flexibility, strength, and stamina.
