Have a Healthy Summer!

melons-848086_1280Summer in Central Florida means extreme temperatures, and that doesn’t do much for your motivation to get out and stay healthy.  Unfortunately, this affects not only your exercise regimen, but your diet as well.  When you’re hot, you tend to feel exhausted, and that doesn’t really push you to get into the kitchen and crank out healthy meals.  So, what are you to do when the temperatures soar but you want to stay fit?

First, don’t fall into the trap of giving up healthy food in favor of picking up something quick and easy so you don’t have to cook in a hot kitchen.  There are plenty of healthy options that are quick and easy to prepare at home, and WAY more tasty than what you’ll get at a drive-through!  Salads are a GREAT summer choice, since they contain lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and if you top them with a simple grilled meat, they are a complete one-dish meal.  Best part?  They don’t require heating up the oven or stove!  Another way to avoid using the oven (and thus heating up your house) is to use your slow cooker.  There are lots of healthy ideas online for crock-pot meals that your entire family will love.  For easy summer breakfasts and snacks, smoothies or fresh fruit are a wonderful (and cool) choice.

Secondly, don’t give up exercise because you think it involves being outdoors in the heat!  Swimming is an excellent form of exercise for your whole body, and even if you only have access to an outdoor pool, the water still cools you off!  Local gyms often have indoor walking/running tracks so if taking a jog is more of your style, you can keep up your routine without taking the risk of overheating.

The best way you can take care of your body is by making sure your health is covered during the summer, and all year long, with adequate insurance.  Having health insurance means you can keep up with annual well-care physicals, and if you do end up being sick or injured, you will be prepared to get treatment ASAP.

Carroll Marshall Insurance can help you customize the coverage you need, so give us a call or stop by our local Winter Haven office.  Have a healthy summer!
