Sudden Celebration: Tips for Hosting A Last-Minute Christmas Party

bake-1841145_640Christmas is less than a week away, and chances are, you have already done most of your planning for the holiday season, including any tasks involved with hosting a holiday party for your friends and/or family.  However, if you get stuck with playing host or hostess for a last-minute get-together, planning can quickly become stressful and overwhelming.

Here are some tips for making sure you appear to have it all together, even if you don’t!

  • Semi-Homemade is perfectly acceptable. A last-minute party isn’t the time to impress guests with your stunning culinary skills. Store bought pastries or cookies on a pretty Christmas platter serve the purpose of refreshment just fine. Throw on a pot of coffee, pour some chips or pretzels in a bowl, and you’re ready to party! If you want to take things a little further, use easy shortcuts for your favorite holiday dishes, such as using canned pie fillings instead of those from scratch, using pre-made bread or pie dough, etc.
  • Dollar store decorating is your friend when it comes to sudden hosting. Local dollar stores carry a huge variety of paper products in a variety of colors and styles, plenty of decorative elements for any season (but especially Christmas) and even balloons and simple party favor ideas. Consider your dollar store a “one-stop shop” if you find yourself providing a party with little time to plan.
  • Keep it simple and choose easy games or activities. An easy $5 and under white elephant gift exchange, playing a game of charades, or even popping in a holiday classic movie are all completely notable choices for entertainment at a last-minute Christmas party.

See?  You can easily throw a last-minute party this Christmas season and have your guests talking about your wonderful hosting skills for weeks afterward!  Last-minute isn’t always a bad thing. However, realizing last minute that you need better coverage for yourself or your family?  That is a bad thing.  Having adequate health and life insurance for your loved ones is vital not only at Christmas, but all year long.
