Are You Ready for Spring Break? Protect Yourself (And Your Belongings) with The Right Coverage

pool-690034_640Spring break is quickly approaching here in Polk County, and local kids (and adults) are ready for vacations, time away from school and the daily grind, and a period of resting and recharging before the rush of finishing out the 2018 spring semester begins. However, there is an important component of traveling, whether just down the street or across the globe, that you might not think about when you’re putting together a vacation checklist.

We’re talking about insurance, and how it protects you, your loved ones, and your belongings in the event of vacations and trips away from home. Your spring break vacation likely involves you and your family, a car and/or air travel, luggage, hotels, relatives, fun activities, etc.  There are many factors involved in travel of any type of distance, and your insurance is closely tied with the most important parts!

Adequate auto insurance is vital if you’ll be traveling by car!. You’ll want to make sure all your coverage paperwork is current before you hit the road, just in case.  If something were to happen, you know that your insurance will be right there ready to help cover you in a crisis, whether it’s a flat tire and a towing fee, or something more serious like a blown engine or brake failure. Some types of policies can even cover temporary lodging, towing, use of a rental car, etc. when your car leaves you stranded in an unfamiliar place.

Health insurance is also important when heading out of town. Make sure all insurance cards are current and in a safe spot.  You might also want to look over and/or print out information regarding which doctors are in network for you in your destination spot, or find out how your insurance handles out of network coverage for emergency visits, hospitals, etc. It’s better to be prepared ahead of time than left scrambling in the event of an emergency.

Finally, you might want to check over your homeowners policy for any details involving burglary and/or vandalism while you’re away from home.  If you are leaving your house unattended for an extended period of time, it’s nice to know that you have protection in case something were to happen while you were gone.
